Assignment: Portrait of a Place (or an event)

Number One (remix) from UA, Telecommunication and Film on Vimeo.

-TCF 312 Project: Portrait of a Place
-R&B Singer Brandon Ray remixes R. Kelly's hit single "Number One". Video takes place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama home of the NCAA college football champions Alabama Crimson Tide. My goal of the assignment was to create a new look into my city, Tuscaloosa, AL and give the campus of The University of Alabama a good look. I rode around the city during night to capture the lights of the city.

  2. nice music video. i liked the fast cutting shots of the city, made it seem like you were running from place to place to see everything.

  3. Well considering I do not think Tuscaloosa is this glitzy or ostentatious looking...I would say you did nicely relating how you see Tuscaloosa to someone with a different perspective of it. Meaning, you had me looking at the town differently than I normally do. Very good job.

  4. I told you think when I saw you editing, but I am amazed at how interesting you managed to make Tuscaloosa look! Hah! But besides that I LOVE the shot you did with the city in the background. I love nighttime lights and that was the perfect backdrop for this. It seems like you had the gain up on the camera for some of the shots, but I think it gives a little texture to the video so that's nice. Since a lot of the shots are movement shots it gives the town life and I like the constant use of out of focus to in focus shots.

  5. liked the beginning a lot. Felt like I was in a sweet cologne commercial with the jazz music and panning through the different bottles. Tuscaloosa seemed pretty tight!

  7. Im glad you choose Tuscaloosa at night, with the lights and fast swithches of shots and panning it made it seem alive and jumping... which as we all know, is not always the case. So you sold me

  8. One of your shots, the one of the state roads, really caught my attention. You focused and made the background move forward. It was great. The color on the bright shots was really outstanding. Great focus. You were able to tell the story of a city successful, even if you made the story a little more glamorous than the normal Tuscaloosa day. I really liked how I was able to recognize where you were around town. Great job!

  11. One of the shots from this video that I really liked was of the person walking out of the door and onto the porch area. The light in the back of the shot has a really red quality, but it doesn't dominate the shot and really sets the tone for the rest of the video for me.

The ending shot with the soft focus was a really cool ending too.
